The term “jailbreaking” means that malicious code, or malware, might have been installed on your device and your information is at risk. When your device is jailbroken, the device’s operating system is unlocked and able to install unapproved applications, extensions, and themes that aren’t supported by the official app stores.

iOS

Android

Rooting is the process of allowing smartphone, tablet, and other Android operating system devices to attain privileged control over various Android subsystems.

A typical rooting installation also installs the Superuser application, which supervises applications that are granted root or superuser rights by requesting approval from the user before granting said permissions. You can unroot by installing an OTA update or by installing stock firmware.
